Earlier tonight Annie Mac premiered the lead single of M.I.A.’s upcoming third album ‘XXXO’ as “The Hottest Record in the World” when she sat in for Zane Lowe, now here’s the real deal. All I have to say is wow, M.I.A. never disappoints, ‘XXXO’ is a complete 180 comparing to ‘Born Free’ as it’s a real catchy pop tune, still very much in her style thou and the co-production by Blaqstarr (he did the original) and Rusko is absolutely SICK!

And the past week the official cover of the single has caused a real stir, almost as big as ‘Born Free’ did the week before that, I really don’t know what the fuss is all about. M.I.A.’s art has always been on the verge of being r e a l corny, reminiscing an awful lot of old web pages made in Windows Word 1997 and Windows WordArt-imagery. The cover of ‘XXXO’ is no exception. Seems like it’s made of blinkie-.gifs, text segments written in Impact and a regular mishmash of bad taste put together. Some Iranian roses here, the new M.I.A. logo of gold ingots there. Well, I actually like it as it goes against every rule of print and web-imagery there is, conformity isn’t M.I.A.’s bag and it will never be.

In other news, her upcoming album has suffered a push back, but don’t worry, the new date is just a week after the 29th of June, the album will be hitting the shelves the 6th of July and M.I.A. will go up against N.E.R.D, Kelis and Big Boi who all releases long anticipated album the same week.
