Jammer, Toddla T, Ghosttown, Badness, Dajla & Twist It!

Time for a little underground producer special up in here!

First up: Jammer ft. Toddla T. To say that I loved ‘Party Animal’ with my full body, heart and soul would be to tell a big fat lie. I like the production by Toddla, good energy and works well to dance to, not that crazy bout the girl thou. No no no. Her voice annoys the hell outta me.

But with remixes coming from Skepta and Hardhouse Banton, this is just the first small step which will lead up to the release of Jammer’s debut album on Big Dada in May 2010. And Jammer is capable of big things as he is one of the best producers and most charismatic characters in the grime scene so there’s still hope.

Featured that remix pack for the team up Jammer did with Badness on Silverlink’s ‘The Message Is Love’ some time ago, which also lead us into the second producer: Ghosttown and the first Senseless release for 2010, a wonky dancehall smasher called ‘You Know’.

Simon Booth aka Ghosttown has spent the last few years obscured, half out of sight as a producer hiring out his futuristic beat-science to a string of heavy hitting MCs including Foreign Beggars and Skrein and a clutch of artists across the Atlantic including Guilty Simpson, Oh No, Frank and Dank and Dudley Perkins from the Dilla/Stones Throw axis of the hip hop spectrum.

His debut release started life like most of his productions, on a beat tape with another 80 or so one minute tracks, all vital snapshots charged with the excitement of what might happen with the right MC but there was something special about the original ‘Greezy’-riddim. It wires up squelching formant synths to insistent, minimal drumssounding like a 2010 UK-bass update to Ginuwine’s ‘Pony’ but at 145 BPM with speaker damaging sub.

This devastating but unusual collision of sounds needed a versatile MC and Badness was top of the list. Known for his early work with Lava Unit and Terror Danjah as well as ‘The Message is Love’ Birmingham born Badness’ star is on the rise. ‘You Know’ as the track became features his signature double time bashment/grime flow and a killer hook sung by cosmic-soul powerhouse Dajla. The Parisian born singer is a Radio Nova favourite who has collaborated with Wax Tailor, Foreign Beggars and celebrated hip hop poet Anthony Joseph. The release comes with mixes from DZ, Numan, Cracks (which is the heater u can enjoy below) and Murlo.

Senseless will also release a Ghosttown album in the summer of 2010 featuring vocalists including Frank & Dank, Olivier Daysoul, Badness, YT, Navigator, Killa P and more. 2010 is the year the Ghost comes to life.

And last but nort least, Jammer is not the only funky monkey, here’s the another, come to live from the young Belgian DJ/producer Twist It! and it’s time to get ur tribal break on peeps!
